When people talk about giving to a cause they automatically assume this has something to do with money. Unfortunately this is the right assumption in most cases. Leyton Life would like to raise your awareness in other methods of giving. Firstly giving doesn’t have to be linked to a global/national organisation, you can give at a very local or personal level. The art of giving can consist of giving some time, to either an organisation or individual people. This time can be spent talking, listening, assisting in some light work, or other activities, walking, playing games etc. If you know of someone who has difficulties getting around, why not ask them if they need anything from the shops, or take them with you if possible. It is amazing how much of a difference such small gestures can make. Another good way of giving would be the donation of unwanted items. A great time to declutter at home, especially if you have lots of new items and need a home for the old or unwanted gifts you have no use for. If you have children then let them get involved in assisting you to pack the items, and give them a brief outline of how things could be reused by other people even though you may no longer need them. Most sought after products: un- perishable food, toiletries, clothing, brick a brac To register your interest in giving some time, items, or if you are too busy and live a minimalist lifestyle and prefer to make a financial contribution please email cheryl@thecornerstone.org.uk Alternatively visit www.freecycle.org Have you ever considered the following? Well there is no time for hesitation but quick thinking when you are a member of the medical team. Why not look at the following forms of giving now or in the future. The Anthony Nolan trust DESPERATELY needs more donors from all communities but especially the black, mixed race, and other ethnic communities to save more lives. If you are between 18 and 40 years old, in good health & weigh at least 8 stone but not over weight in comparison to height, then please join the Bone Marrow Register. You could be someone's lifesaver. Ignorance doesn’t save lives – joining the register can. We welcome all to come along and register. www.anthonynolan.org.uk. Organ donation not a topic many like to discuss, but the reality of the matter is the loss of one life could save others. Why not check out the options available www.uktransplant.org.uk Or call 084... open 24 hours Give Blood 084... or www.blood.co.uk this is also a way in which you could potentially be a life saver.
