Two dead in light aircraft crash

An investigation into the cause of the accident is under way

A 43-year-old man and a three-year-old child have been killed and a woman injured when a light aircraft crashed in a field near the M25. The four-seater plane came down at Navestock, near Brentwood, Essex, at about 1615 BST, police said. The woman was taken to the Queen's Hospital in Romford with head and facial injuries. Police said all three were from London and the single-engine plane was heading for Kent. Investigation begins The Air Accident Investigation Branch is investigating the crash. A spokesman for Essex Fire Service said the woman had been thrown clear of the wreckage when the aircraft crash-landed in the field. Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. Sexual assault on young mum

A YOUNG mother was sexually assaulted in broad daylight in front of her child in Leyton.
The attack happened in Ely Road, at the junction with Colchester Road, at 11.30am on August 2.
A man grabbed the woman, pushed her up against a wall and put his hands down her trousers.
The woman, 28, was attending to her two-year-old son who was in a pushchair when she was approached by the man.
Police are now warning women in the area to be vigilant as the man has yet to be caught.
The man is described as white, possibly of eastern European appearance, aged 31, about 5ft 11in, of athletic build with sandy coloured hair. He was wearing dark bottoms and white trainers.

Boy charged over youth stabbing

A boy has been charged with grevious bodily harm after a teenager was stabbed several times during a fight. The 15-year-old victim was with friends in Bethnal Green, east London, on Sunday night when they became involved in a row with another group. Police said the victim was stabbed a number of times before stumbling onto a bus and collapsing. He is in a stable condition in hospital. A 16-year-old boy is due to appear before Thames Youth Court on Tuesday.

Pensioner dies in fatal collision

An elderly man has died in a hit-and-run incident in east London, police have said. The man, aged in his 70s, was hit by a car just after 2100 BST on Sunday at the junction of Hermon Hill and Charnwood Drive in Woodford. The victim was taken to hospital by ambulance but pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Police said they had located the blue Toyota Avensis which did not stop but sped away north along Hermon Hill. Officers are trying to trace the driver of the vehicle - registration number V824 JNL - which was found close to the scene. The victim is yet to be formally identified, but his next of kin have been informed.
Walthamstow set to get a new Fire Station

The London Fire Authority has announced a £5.3m investment package for a brand new 3 bay, fire station to replace the existing 2 bay station on Forest Road, Walthamstow. The new station will be built on the existing station site and work will commence during 2008. Leader of the Council, Clyde Loakes, said- "This is welcome news and is yet another example of how Labour is delivering significant levels of investment into the public services in this Borough, following on the heels of investment in new schools, refurbishment of our libraries, parks and playgrounds and of course housing."
