One local resident said- "The weather held and the Festival rocked! I have some friends over from Islington and they think this is far better than anything that Islington Council does or what groups in Islington put on." Cllr Geraldine Reardon, portfolio holder with responsibility for arts and culture, said- "We are really pleased that local residents fully support and enjoy the Boroughs Festival programme, it is certainly one of our cultural strengths. This weekend has been fantastic and I'd like to thank the organisers for putting on so much with the Councils support."
Amongst the fantastic bands on the main and supporting stages, residents may have noticed the Leader of the Council, Clyde Loakes, declining the opportunity to do a speech, but instead doing a 40 minute classic funk, soul and reggae DJ set!

| Hilary Benn Praises Waltham Forest Council on Recycling 28th September 2007 Hilary Benn, SoS for the Environment has praised Waltham Forest Council for achieving its high rates of recycling. During a Q & A session at the Labour Party Conference in Bournemouth, Council Leader, Cllr Clyde Loakes, asked the Secretary of State a question about the need to incentivise businesses, shopkeepers and traders to recycle all that they could. In his response he praised the great strides that Waltham Forest Council and residents, had made too date, in achieving its current recycling figures of 31%, making it the leading recycler north of the Thames. In response to the particular question he stated that his civil servants were looking into this particular issue. Clyde commented- "It is great to have this level of reputation on such a key issue. With the introduction of compulsory recycling some 2 weeks ago, it already looks like we will exceed our 33% target for March '08 and achieve something like 35- 36%! This is all thanks to the response of local residents."

| WALTHAM FOREST: Crossrail to come to Waltham Forest's doorstep THE £16 billion Crossrail scheme to build a railway link through the centre of London has been given the go-ahead by the Prime Minister. The rail link is on Waltham Forest's doorstep, connecting Stratford station with Heathrow Airport and will provide east Londoners with another quick route into the capital's centre.
Gordon Brown hailed the scheme, he said: "I believe this is a project of enormous importance not just for London but the whole country."By delivering quicker journeys from some of the most economically disadvantaged parts of the city to the most economically important, it will support regeneration particularly in the most deprived parts of our country."
But local councillor John Beanse, Liberal Democrat, has hit out at the scheme, claiming original Crossrail plans were to link from Chingford to Liverpool Street and Paddington. He added: "This is a regrettable alteration as far as the residents of Waltham Forest are concerned. The news is still welcome because Crossrail would certainly improve transport in London. "It's just a pity that passengers on the Chingford line will have to change trains at Liverpool Street in order to use it - not what we were led to believe originally." He added that Waltham Forest's residents were being shortchanged over public transport because of lack of progress on the Hall Farm Curve, which would connect Chingford to Stratford.
