RULES OF ENGAGEMENT!
These are the Rules of our Forum Conduct

As you visit The Leyton Life Site we ask you to keep the following guidelines in mind. We strive for an environment where everyone feels able to voice his or her opinions, thoughts and questions without being judged or flamed. Please help us keep the wiki this way.

Play Nice
The rule that comes above all others is Play Nice. No one comes here to be bullied or insulted. All are welcome here. You can tell someone that you disagree with their idea or opinion and give reasons why, in a constructive fashion, but turning comments into personal insults will get that comment deleted. NO EXCEPTIONS.But if he calls another user "stupid," the comment is gone.

Censorship
As moderators we strive to be impartial and objective. We will never delete a page, content or comment solely because we disagree with the opinion stated. Nor will we keep a comment that contains offensive material solely because we agree with it. We will however delete any comments that break the above rule, regardless of the opinion expressed in them. If a discussion has not yet started around an inflammatory comment, a moderator will delete it without notice. If you are a registered user, we will send you a message, when warranted, to explain why a comment, page or content was deleted.

Grammar, Spelling and Punctuation
In contrast to a chat room, where you might find yourself typing quickly to keep up with a conversation, in the wiki format you have all the time in the world to edit your page or write your comment. Before you hit that save button, take a minute to look over what you've written and make sure it all sounds and looks right. There's a neat spellcheck button in the EasyEdit Toolbar (and if you're using Firefox 2.0, you'll have auto spellcheck as you type). Keep in mind that spellcheck won't catch misspelled words that are actually other words. For example, instead of "hit" a few sentences ago, I wrote "his." Looking over this paragraph, I saw that and fixed it.
Also, as a point of Internet Etiquette, TYPING IN ALL CAPS LIKE THIS IS THE EQUIVALENT OF SHOUTING and no one likes it. On a related note, tYpInG lIkE tHiS iS rEaLlY hArD tO rEaD; please try to avoid it. Same thing for bolding, italicising or underling large sections of text. Formatting like that should be used for emphasis. People are more likely to read your text and get your point if you make it easy on the eye.

Advertising/Promoting Other Sites
The only advertising allowed within the pages of this wiki is on the Links page and only Leyton related sites are permitted to be advertised there. If you advertise for a non-Leyton site anywhere on the pages or in comments, it will be deleted. If moderators notice a habit of continually posting spam links, you will be banned. For registered users, your profile page (which can only be edited by yourself and moderators) is yours to use however you please. Feel free to use your profile to advertise your personal site.

We also ask that you read the Other Wiki Code of Conduct, By Clicking Here!

If you find someone else Breaking, any of these Rules listed above Please Contact the Moderators, If you need immediate assistance Email the Admin team at feedback.leytonlife@googlemail.com

Editor’s note...

Dear Reader Welcome to Leyton Life,

I have a new section in this edition called "express yourself" and would like to thank the contributors for this. Had it not been for them I would not have been able to include the different styles for you to read. Please feel free to send you’re contributions in, and if you wish to you can stay anonymous.

I have a website in progress for all of you who prefer surfing to flicking. The aim of this website is to be interactive (just like the magazine). I want people to be able to go there voice their opinions, concerns, gossip etc. It is open to the world but Leyton residents are getting a special invite from me. So get there before others do! You can submit you’re favourite recipes, handy tips, jokes, pearls of wisdom, spooky experiences in Leyton and beyond! .etc…etc…. I am not one for setting boundaries so feel free to "express yourself". It is a community magazine so keep that in mind!

Leyton has a lot to offer, especially for the youngsters ,and there are great facilities around with helpful staff which is great. I placed my son in one of the summer sports courses at SCORE, and he enjoyed it very much. The prices were reasonable, less than a new computer game! I think it is important to get kids out away from the TV, and streets doing something constructive. Being active and experiencing new thing’s can only be a good thing. So look out for their latest activities in this issue and the website. Local leisure centres facilitate the young and the old so get out there and start getting fit.

I would like to thank all my regular and new advertisers as without their support I wouldn’t be able to fund this project. So Dear Reader don’t just flick through the adverts take you’re time and consider them. You never know you may discover that special something here. Fancy a take away why not try The Curry King or T’s Deli.

Yours,

Yasmin

About Us - Leyton Life
Leyton is a vibrant and multicultural area in East London with an interesting history. Its name means "Town on the River Ley" - since 1570 the Ley has been known as the Lee or Lea - although the name of Leyton has been around since the 9th Century. In 1722 Daniel DeFoe describes Leyton as an expanding area, with new houses mainly for the richest citizens, in Tour Through the Eastern Counties of England.

In 1965, Leyton was moved from the administration of Essex, into the London Borough of Waltham Forest. A plaque in Coronation Gardens now commemorates this fact.

During World War II, Leyton suffered as a target because of its close proximity to Temple Mills Yard. ?
After the war, work on the Central line extension from Liverpool Street to Leyton was resumed. Part built stations and tunnels had been abandoned during the war, or turned into shelters or munitions factories. On 5th May 1947, it was finally opened and Leyton became linked to central London via the Underground. The Leyton Signal Box, originally built in 1899, was fitted with a lever to switch between automatic operation for the tube by day and manual operation for British Rail stock by night. Sadly the signal box was demolished during the building of the M11 Link Road in the late 1990s.

In 1886 a pavilion was built at Leyton Cricket Ground becoming the headquarters of Essex Cricket Club until 1933. The pavilion still stands and the grounds have more recently been used for council firework displays.
